Deepwater Guyana Basin: Magma-rich Rifting and a Tectonostratigraphic Framework Hosting Deepwater Exploration Targets
The Jurassic opening of the Guyana Basin was accompanied by voluminous magmatism at the rifted margins of Suriname/Guinea Bissau that was followed by Aptian dextral rifting phase initiated in the Equatorial Atlantic. The tectonostratigraphic framework records the separate periods of rifting and phase of transpression that overprint the Jurassic volcanic margin on the Demerara Rise. In this webinar, we look at seismic data that reveal the tectonic history and a thick Jurassic-present sedimentary section within depositional fairways that extends 350 km from the modern day coastline.
