ION, in partnership with GEOTEC, has secured the rights to broker and reprocess ~2,600 km of 2D seismic data onshore Angola. This dataset will act as the primary dataset for the onshore 2021 Kwanza License round.
The dataset covers approximately 25,000 sq. km and spans over 23 blocks, six of which will be up for the License Round.
The Kwanza basin is part of the Angola Basin which is famous for its “Aptian Salt,” a thick layer of evaporites that has influenced the topography of the basin since its deposition, creating trapping structures in the post-salt and providing an effective regional seal to presalt accumulations.
In recent decades, the sedimentary basins of offshore Angola have been a hotspot for massive oil discoveries within a range of pre-salt and post-salt plays. These basins and their petroleum systems also extend onshore with historical exploration success in the post-salt units.
→ Phase one PSTM/PSDM target for completion by mid-2021
→ Legacy data (circa 2010/2012) acquired and processed by GEOKINETICS
→ ION to broker and reprocess dataset
→ 11 oilfields and 2 small gas field discovered in this basin
→ Data available for the planned 2021 License Round
→ License Round to cover KON5, KON6, KON8, KON9, KON17 and KON20
