Statics are time shifts that must be applied to a seismic data trace. While statics are typically thought of as a land problem caused by topography or near-surface velocity anomalies, the notion of a static shift is valid in marine data as well, and can be seen in both gun/cable corrections and cold water statics.
Solving Statics with Advanced Tools
ION provides statics solutions for many types of static shifts, including modules to apply a bulk shift for datum corrections and solutions for source/receiver refraction statics, which are often necessary in data processing.
Our imaging team has modules that provide solutions for data acquired in the marine environment:
- Cold water statics: Applied by a geo-statistical methods looking along crossline amplitudes along the water bottom to determine area shifts
- Receiver motion corrections: ION-written module to determine and apply the corrections
Our Millennium software sets the standard for 2D/3D geometry QC, first break picking, and refraction statics, including two methods for solving near-surface statics problems:
- A full 3D turning-ray tomography technique, which augments our delay time refraction solution, uses an inversion approach for creating a near-surface velocity model.
- Millennium's first break batch-picking completes the toolbox of solutions that companies around the globe use to keep productivity flowing.
