In 2006, ION announced two oil & gas company launch partners, BP and Apache. In November 2006, ION shipped more than 8,000 FireFly field station units to Wyoming and acquisition by Global Geophysical, the contractor selected by BP, was completed. Apache received the system in March 2007 and completed acquisition in northeast Texas in July 2007.
In August of 2008, ION announced the completion of a multi-client acquisition project using FireFly in northwest Colorado in a survey now known as Durham Ranch. East Resources Inc., an independent E&P company, was the primary underwriter of the survey and Geokinetics served as the seismic contractor.
