A fully integrated, global E&P company was formulating plans for a multi-well development drilling program in the Sichuan Province, in east-central China, that had been only partially developed since its discovery twenty years ago. Although seismic data existed for the field, it was not of the quality desired. Historical drilling success rates were low, which reduced the economic potential of a new drilling program unless improved seismic methods could better characterize the reservoir and explain the significant production variability among the wells previously drilled.
