Securing permits to conduct operations in public and private lands overlaying prospective hydrocarbon reservoirs has never been more challenging. In addition to government restrictions, it can also be an expensive and time-consuming process that ultimately affects the value of the potential resources held under lease. Moreover, the E&P companies are often forced to make compromises that will ultimately affect the seismic image if, for instance, they deploy less seismic recording technology than would otherwise be optimal in hopes of minimizing the potential environmental impact.
