What do you do at ION?
I am in charge of our Solutions group, one of two main operating groups at ION. Four business units report to me - our GXT Imaging Solutions (data processing) team; our Integrated Seismic Solutions (data library) team; our Seabed Solutions team; and our Full-wave Land Solutions (FireFly) team. In total, there are about 300 employees in these businesses. All these businesses share two common themes - one is that they are targeting the oil & gas companies and two is that they are all charged with identifying full-scope geophysical solutions (encompassing survey design methods, field acquisition technologies, data processing, interpretation, and non-seismic methods) that help E&P companies better understand the subsurface.
What do you like best about the company?
That we are trying to change an entire industry and revolutionize the world of geophysics. You won't find too many other companies that have such a lofty aspiration or the toolkit and the people to bring a vision like ours to life. We are thinking big at ION and developing the next generation of seismic-oriented technologies that will enable E&P companies to identify and profitably develop the ‘third trillion' barrels of oil that will provide heat, light, and mobility to the citizens of the world in the decades ahead.
How does ION compare to other employers you have had?
We are extremely entrepreneurial here. We don't have the history and the associated bureaucracy that you might find in some other companies, whether oil & gas producers or seismic companies. You have the ability to jump in and make an impact right from the start.
