Arctic Seismic Data Processing
ION continues in expanding its expertise, experience, and award winning technology in Arctic seismic acquisition helping the oil and gas industry to accurately assess hydrocarbon potential in one of the most remote, extreme, and untapped frontiers in the world.
ION offers several proprietary processing technologies that can be leveraged for challenging Arctic datasets. Three crucial processing technologies include:
- Multiple attenuation - Apex-shifted demultiple tackles off-plane multiples and SPMA (Short Period Multiple Attenuation) attenuates difficult-to-remove shallow-water multiples
- Deghosting - WiBand recovers low and high frequencies from deep towed streamer data that have been compromised by source and receiver notches resulting from reflections from the free surface
- Noise removal - Our noise attenuation techniques including SWD (Swell Denoise) noise, radial filtering, and spike removal, address the unique challenges of noise caused by diffracted energy from floating ice, breaking ice, and severe cable jerk noise from contact with ice
These technologies, executed in a cascaded processing workflow, successfully overcome the geophysical challenge of removing multiples, ghosts and complex noise unique to seismic data acquired near and under arctic ice.
GXT imaging technology, with a full suite of pre-stack imaging algorithms such as Kirchhoff PreSTM-PreSDM, Beam and RTM, leverages long offset Arctic data to unlock the potential of underexplored Arctic basins. Our Arctic expertise and innovative technologies are helping operators to confidently transition from palaeogeographic studies, deep basin-scale structural interpretation, and petroleum systems reconnaissance to specific exploration-grade targets in Greenland, the Chukchi and Beaufort seas, and the Russian arctic.
