Offset Vector Tiling

Processing based on offset vector tiles (OVT) works differently than conventional seismic processing methods that group traces from different source-receiver pairs that share a common midpoint into a gather that is stacked. Offset vector tiles are single-fold subsets of a survey and can be extracted for near, mid and far offsets. OVT-sorted data groups similar offsets and azimuths, thereby preserving offset and azimuth integrity. Sorting and processing the data in this manner allows for robust methods of enhancing the following:

  • Noise attenuation
  • Data migration
  • AVO/AVD analysis

Although OVT has been successfully applied to conventional cable-based surveys, OVT techniques are progressively more effective as surface sampling density increases.
