Illumination Services for use in Geophysical Survey Design and Processing
Concept Systems’ team of experienced geophysicists offer illumination study services for a range of applications from survey design and 4D planning to seismic processing and infill analysis. Using ILLUMINATOR, our high-speed analysis tool, illumination analyses can be performed in a matter of days rather than weeks with results immediately available to clients on our secure e-Services website.
A 3D geology velocity model is fundamental to any study and horizon models are typically supplied by the client in a format such as Gocad, Zmap, or XYZ. Velocity models can vary in complexity from fixed velocities to fully varying spatial velocity models and are normally supplied in SEGY format. Model building can take up to a week, but illumination results are usually ready in only a few days. Once the model is built, 3D surface images and 2D velocity slices are made available to clients for QC purposes. After verification, rays can be traced through the model and results generated.
Ray tracing is performed by ILLUMINATOR’S patented high-speed ray tracing engine, which can be set up to simulate any type of marine streamer/OBC or land geometry. The client supplies geometries and line orientations, but optimizing acquisition geometries can be undertaken as an additional service. Both single- and multi-arrival rays can be used in the analysis. Once a full set of rays has been traced to the required resolution, they can be matched to either existing source receiver position files (UKOOA P1/90, SPS), or internally generated locations. This ray matching process will generate attribute maps that are posted on our e-Service site for client access.
Several major oil & gas companies have used our illumination services in locations including the North Sea, North Africa, Gulf of Mexico (sub-salt) and the Caspian Sea.
