CaribeSPAN

Interest and activity in the offshore areas of Trinidad and Tobago have never been higher. In order to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the complex geology in the region, ION's GeoVentures group created CaribeSPAN.

Spanning the offshore areas of the southern Caribbean and the northern margin of South America, CaribeSPAN data extends to several countries, including Trinidad and Tobago, and Grenada. The program is a basin-wide, regional seismic data program and geologic study consisting of approximately 11,000 km of high-quality, depth-migrated data.

Program Objectives

  • Better understand the regional geology of the area's less explored basins
  • Provide analytical tools and added insight into the region's potential to oil & gas companies participating in bid rounds in Trinidad and Tobago

Key Components

  • Unprecedented deep focus: 18-second records, 9,000 m offsets
  • Proprietary, industry-leading multiple attenuation
  • Area's first regional, depth-imaged seismic dataset that provides the basis for a more accurate understanding of the regional geology and basin architecture
  • Enhanced imaging of reservoir facies
  • Improved understanding of the distribution of Cretaceous and Tertiary source rocks
  • Better delineation of the location and nature of plate boundaries and crustal types
  • Ties and transects key structural and depositional features and important wells
  • Produces the basic interpretive input required by quantitative basin models
  • Complements the Government of Trinidad's dataset reprocessed by GXT
