Interest and activity in the offshore areas of Trinidad and Tobago have never been higher. In order to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the complex geology in the region, GX Technology (GXT) created CaribeSPAN.
CaribeSPAN is a basin-wide, ultradeep regional seismic data program and geologic study spanning the offshore areas of the southern Caribbean and the northern margin of South America. With 30,000 km of high-quality, deep-focused, depth-migrated seismic data, CaribeSPAN was the area’s first regional seismic dataset. CaribeSPAN data extends to several countries, including Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, Guyana and Suriname.
The program layout was designed with the active participation of oil & gas companies and regional experts, with the goal of better understanding the regional geology and more specifically, the deeper, less explored basins in the region.
Utilizing our Image-Driven approach, GXT managed the entire project to ensure the highest-quality survey design, acquisition, and processing technologies were applied.
Key program components include:
- Unprecedented deep focus: 18 second records, 9000 meter offset
- Proprietary, industry-leading multiple attenuation
- Enhanced imaging of potential reservoir facies
- Improved understanding of the distribution of Cretaceous and Tertiary source rocks
- Better delineation of the location and nature of plate boundaries and crustal types
- Ties and transects key structural and depositional features and key wells
- Produces the basic interpretive input required by quantitative basin models
