Nigeria's Delta region is home to vast oil reserves, which make the country one of the world's biggest oil exporters. Because of its wealth of reserves, oil & gas companies are very interested in understanding the regional geology and exploring for hydrocarbons in Nigeria. GX Technology developed the NigeriaSPAN program in order to further understand current plays and their regional setting.
NigeriaSPAN is a regional, basin-scale 2D seismic program set in the Gulf of Guinea, consisting of 8,317 km of newly acquired seismic data. Lines from the Niger Delta extend across the Cameroon volcanic line to tie with discoveries in the EquatorSPAN and CongoSPAN areas. The program is showing great new plays in deeper shelf, deepwater Nigeria and JDZ and Sao Tome and Principe. Preliminary data review clearly maps basement architecture and new source possibilities never before seen in seismic data.
NigeriaSPAN is a joint venture with Mabon Limited as well as in cooperation with DPR of Nigeria an SNH of Cameroon. Regional experts were also involved in designing the layout of the program in order to best image and understand the regional geology.
Key program components include:
- Advanced understanding of shale tectonics and the region bounded by counter-regional faults
- Spectacular imaging of counter-regional faults, various akata shale provinces and comprehensive understanding of the structural styles of the Delta
- Significant advancement of the understanding of basement architecture and the sub-thrust provinces where new play ideas are rapidly emerging
