EquatorSPAN

Many of the international oil & gas companies are increasing their activity levels in the West Africa deepwater basins. In response to an industry-wide need for improved regional understanding of the geoscience of the petroleum systems of the central portion of the West African margin, GX Technology (GXT) designed EquatorSPAN.

EquatorSPAN is a 2D seismic program set in the Equatorial Atlantic margin of Africa and was designed to reveal the tectonic architecture of the West African Gulf of Guinea margin.  This program consists of 8,300 km of new data off the coasts of Cameroon and Northern Gabon. EquatorSPAN is designed to uncover the missing link between tectonic fabric and basin formation and is a risk-reduction strategy for exploration in the transform fault margin of the Gulf of Guinea.

As with all of our SPAN programs, the layout was designed with active cooperation with oil & gas companies and regional experts in order to better understand the regional geology.  EquatorSPAN was designed in joint cooperation with SNH, Cameroon and DGH, Gabon.

Key program components include:

  • Ties key structural and depositional features and significant wells
  • Shows significant cretaceous potential and provides industry’s first regionally consistent, advanced mapping of Douala Basin and its potential
  • Provides significantly improved imaging of the pre-salt and the basins around the basalt sequences
