Many international oil & gas companies have renewed interest in the waters off the eastern coast of Africa. In response to industry demand for improved regional understanding of the geoscience of the petroleum systems of the margins in the southeast portion the continent, GX Technology (GXT) designed East AfricaSPAN.
Located offshore Madagascar, Kenya and Tanzania, East AfricaSPSAN is a regional seismic program and geologic study designed to understand large-scale hydrocarbon potential. With approximately 13,500km of newly acquired data, this program provides an advanced regional framework for the petroleum systems in East Africa by studying regional distribution of source rocks and wide-scale basement architecture.
The program layout was designed with the active participation of oil & gas companies and regional experts, with the goal of better understanding the regional geology ad more specifically, the deeper, less explored basins in the region.
Key program components include:
- Ties to key structural and depositional features and significant wells
- Provides a tectonic framework to understand salt systems in Kenya and Somalia
- Advance framework for new systems in deepwater East Africa and provide an understanding of its stratigraphy through direct DSDP tie
