Many international oil & gas companies are increasing their activity levels in the offshore areas of Africa. In response to the industry demand for improved understanding of the petroleum systems surrounding the continent, GX Technology (GXT) designed the multi-phase program, AfricaSPAN.
AfricaSPAN is a regional seismic and geologic program designed to provide better understanding of the multiple, active petroleum systems that exist around Africa. It provides the industry with the first regionally consistent advanced seismic dataset.
Each phase of the program was designed with the active participation of oil & gas companies and regional experts with the goal of better understanding the regional geology and more specifically, the deeper, less explored basins in the region.
AfricaSPAN currently consists of the following phases:
- NigeriaSPAN - set in the Gulf of Guinea and ties with discoveries in the EquatorSPAN and CongoSPAN areas
- EquatorSPAN - Located off the coasts of Cameroon and Northern Gabon.
- CongoSPAN - Consists of two phases totaling over 25,000 kilometers of data acquired off the coasts of Angola, Congo, and Gabon
- East AfricaSPAN - Located offshore Madagascar, Kenya and Tanzania
