The value of integrated seismic technologies
ION's ETF was held on 28th to 30th of April 2009. Following a successful period of ION Sponsored Technical Forums in Sprowston, the 2009 event took place at the Oatlands Park Hotel , Weybridge, Surrey - and was re-named the European Technical Forum.
Oatlands Park Hotel is a larger venue with a much more modern conference facility and is located between two major London airports making it easily accessible for both our international and UK based delegates. Despite the current economic downturn, the forum was attended by over 50 delegates from key oil and gas companies and the contractor community.
As with previous years, the quality of papers was outstanding. The broad spectrum of papers included:
- The State of the Geophysical Industry
- OBC in the North Sea: Niche Technology or Reservoir Must-have?
- A Seismic Imaging Tale From the East African Rift Valley, Uganda
- Careful Processing Leads to Cheaper Wells: Grove - An SNS Case History
- Rusting, Aging and Fading: A Meditation On How the Oil Industry and Its Geophysical Service Companies Pursue Policies Contrary to Their Own Success
- Application of VectorSeis Ocean Offshore UAE
- Seismic Data Acquisition Offshore Qatar
Email ION for a list of papers and extended abstracts. ETF is not all about hard work and a lot of care is always taken to ensure that delegates have plenty of opportunities for informal networking! This year, we were very lucky to have an excellent weather for the Icebreaker BBQ. On the second night of the forum, our delegates experienced degaustion at its best , enjoying an excellent 4 course dinner and the finest choice of English wines from the Denbies estate.
The feedback received from the attendees was very positive. Delegates liked the new venue and were very appreciative of the fact that we kept the event in the "Sprowston format and spirit".
ETF Delegate comments:
- "Much more use than most conferences: No Academic 'points scoring', open comments / discussions."
- "A very informative gathering. Great exchange of ideas."
- "A very good mix of experienced people and presentation topics."
