Key Acquisitions

Key acquisitions that shaped I/O:

  • The 1994 acquisition of the cable and connector groups of Tescorp, Inc., which provided customers with the cables necessary to operate I/O systems. The acquisition eventually allowed the Company to develop our acquisition system for the ocean bottom, called VectorSeis Ocean.
  • The 1995 acquisition of Western Geophysical's Exploration Products Group, which added marine seismic recording systems, vibrator source products, and geophone products to the Company's technology portfolio. With this acquisition, revenues and earnings doubled and the Company was able to offer seismic imaging technology for all acquisition environments, both onshore and offshore.
  • The 1997 acquisition of Green Mountain Geophysics, Inc. (GMG), developer of MESA software for seismic planning software. Founded in 1979, GMG provides interactive geophysical software support, training and consulting for seismic survey design and planning along with post-survey refraction statics analyses.
  • The 1998 acquisition of DigiCOURSE, Inc., the leading manufacturer of marine positioning products.  Following the acquisition, I/O reorganized into separate land and marine divisions to better manage its growing portfolio of products and services and strengthened its commitment to the rapidly growing opportunity in marine time-lapse (4D) seismic.
  • The 2001 acquisition of Pelton Company, Inc. Pelton is a leader in seismic vibrator control systems, vibrator positioning systems using GPS (global positioning systems), and explosive energy control systems.
  • The 2002 acquisition of AXIS Geophysics, an advanced seismic data processing company that specializes in anisotropic processing, AVO (amplitude variation with offset) analysis, and azimuthal velocity modeling.
  • The February 2004 acquisition of Concept Systems, Ltd., a leading supplier of vital navigation software to the global towed streamer fleet. In addition, Concept Systems provides the software that interacts as the data integration and management platform for seismic surveys being conducted offshore.
  • The June 2004 acquisition of GX Technology Inc., a leading provider of advanced seismic data processing and subsurface imaging solutions, including the growing area of pre-stack depth migration (PreSDM). GXT offers a portfolio of high-end seismic processing services including the start-to-finish Integrated Seismic Solution, in which GXT is responsible for all elements in the seismic workflow, including survey design, technology selection, project management of field acquisition operations, advanced processing, and final image rendering.
