Guide-ION/GXT saw its first success after being awarded its first of two full 3D projects using GXT software. The two tests were undertaken in the Northern and Southern parts of the Western Desert of Egypt, working with small to midsized independent companies, applying prestack time and prestack depth imaging. Until now, only prestack time imaging had been routinely applied to the shallow reservoirs in the Northern part of the Western Desert. A game-changer, Guide-ION/GXT was the first company in the area to take on depth imaging to evaluate the potential of deeper targets. The impressive results showed improved noise attenuation, higher frequency content and better structural imaging of deep targets, stirring up interest among local companies and generating a buzz in the region. Likewise, the Southern part of the Western Desert project improved fault definition and clarified reflector structural-stratigraphic relationships, truly showcasing Guide-ION/GXT's regional expertise in advanced imaging.
