Concept Systems was established in 1983 by founders David Phillip and Alastair Hay to provide a new generation of PC-based navigation and data acquisition systems for the marine and offshore oil & gas exploration markets. This resulted in the development of the GriDNav family of navigation QC systems, which became an industry standard for marine seismic survey throughout the 1980's. Also during this period the company developed innovative hardware and software solutions for a diverse range of applications including marine survey positioning, vessel stress monitoring and avionic system testing.
In the early 1990's Concept Systems identified an industry need for faster turnaround of processed navigation data in the 2D and 3D marine seismic acquisition and processing cycle. In 1993 we launched Sprint, a navigation processing & QC system for marine geophysical survey. A year later, Spectra prime navigation system and the Reflex binning system were introduced. Spectra in combination with Sprint and Reflex has become the leading integrated navigation and data processing system for 2D and 3D marine streamer operations and is currently installed on over 50 vessels worldwide.
By the mid 1990's, we established our services division to provide a range of navigation data processing and QC services. To meet the specific control and data management demands of ocean bottom and shallow water operations, Concept Systems extended its range of in-field acquisition products with the Gator OBC navigation system which was introduced in 1997. Also in 1997, Concept Systems was awarded the Queens Award for Export Achievement.
During the latter half of the 1990's Concept Systems expanded the Company's markets into the geophysics arenas with a range of geophysical analysis and QC tools and services for optimizing quality and costs throughout the design, deployment and acquisition phases of a geophysical survey. In 1998, Alastair Hay became Managing Director after the death of David Phillip, and in the same year 3i, Europe's leading venture capitalists, became a major shareholder of the company.
More recently, we have embraced e-commerce technology by enhancing our services with a range of e-technology applications enabling fast and efficient service delivery via our e-services web site. Concept Systems has also responded to recent demand for 4D (4C) surveys by providing a range of 4D acquisition services including illumination analysis, survey planning and the supply of customized acquisition software and hardware.
In February 2004, Concept Systems was acquired by ION. As a division of ION we maintain our policy of continuous innovation and development within the ION family and are currently addressing the control and data management requirements of land survey operations.
