The Gas Dragon Breathes
One of the paths that led to the success of our XinChang full-wave imaging project was carved by ION’s Reservoir Solutions team. Our Reservoir Solutions team is comprised of experienced geophysicists, geologists, and reservoir engineers chartered with reducing the uncertainties oil & gas companies face when identifying and drilling new prospects. The seismic attribute and reservoir characterization services we provide help define the lithology (rock type), stratigraphy and fracturing of the subsurface, which leads to an improved understanding of subsurface that ultimately helps determine optimal drilling locations.

Without question, one of the most important tools is the expertise of the person on the project. For example, AVO is a good tool, but it can yield false positives and an inexperienced geophysicist may unwittingly recommend to drill based on those results. Knowing which data is of value and how to use it properly is critical to the success of the project. Each member of our Reservoir Solutions team boasts more than 20 years of oil company experience.
XinChang Well

By integrating processed data with data from all disciplines including existing well, core, and production histories, we are able to create maps and simulation models that deliver a more precise picture of the subsurface including indicators of productivity of existing wells. Effectively, our interpretation and maps provide oil & gas companies with a 'drill-here' indicator that supports their goal of drilling a large percentage of successful wells.

Map of XinChang Province
Customers utilize our services and expertise to paint a more accurate picture of the subsurface geology in many environments including difficult unconventional tight gas reservoirs. As in the case of Sinopec, the successful use of full-wave seismic data led to improved production from the XinChang field, which is a fractured tight gas reservoir in China’s Sichuan Province. Our Reservoir Solutions team was commissioned to apply our tools and expertise on this challenging project. By working in close collaboration and in an iterative manner, we were able to assist Sinopec in the development of drilling plans that concluded with the drilling of several successful wells, one of which is now the most productive in the region.

ION’s vision is to provide end-to-end solutions from survey design and full-wave acquisition through processing and reservoir analysis that provide unprecedented value and risk reduction in exploration and reservoir development. To continue to our growth, we are focused on projects from oil & gas companies and National Oil Companies (NOCs). The NOCs are of special interest because they have a tremendous acreage position around the world and they can benefit from the expertise and toolkit we offer to help them locate successful drilling locations.
